GHEVA is a non-profit advocacy group of electric vehicle (EV) owners, prospective owners, and enthusiasts serving the west GTA, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, and Niagara regions. The Golden Horseshoe Electric Vehicle Association (pronounced Gee-vah), GHEVA, with over 115 members⁄subscribers, is based out of the Harry Howell Arena in Flamborough. This LEED Silver Certified $18 million twin pad arena with community meeting rooms has ten level two electric vehicle charging stations and is the host location for the annual EV Fest which is slated next for Sunday, June 14, 2015. EV Fest features exhibits that showcase the latest EV technology, ‘tech-talks’ with industry experts, as well as ride and drive opportunities for the general public. Getting ‘butts in seats’ is a key first step in helping the public experience the thrill of driving electric.
GHEVA meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and are open to the public, with the exception of the months of July and August when meetings are suspended. GHEVA members work with other non-profits like the David Suzuki Foundation and other electric vehicle advocacy organizations to help inform the general public about more sustainable forms of transportation. Each month, a special guest presenter is invited to speak on a topic related to transportation electrification, renewable energy, and⁄or sustainable living.
